diaries – Art Fair Soumi 2017, Helsinki

diaries is a research project and we have invited four international artists to participate in this idea for a project that we call mixed diaries. Each artist of diaries has invited one guest to participate in the project for one month. Julia Hürter (Berlin) invited Ricarda Wallhäuser (Berlin) for February 2017. Christine Baumann (Vienna) asked Aldo Giannotti (Vienna) to do March 2017. Kenneth Pils (Stockholm) invited Lotte Nilsson-Valimaa (Stockholm) for April 2017 Michaela Nasoetion (Berlin) asked Katalin Marghescu (Munich) to do May 2017. In this exhibition, we show four months: February, March, April and May 2017 done by eight artists. The format is individually chosen by the artists, who also decide on the artistic implementation.

diaries - Berlin, Stockholm, Vienna

diaries is an international, ongoing, collaborative organization initiated by Christine Baumann (Vienna) and Julia Hürter (Berlin) which was founded in 2012. The concept is for each artist to produce one picture every day over the period of one year.

Our intention is to share our ongoing creative process while doing one work every day. Here we want to show the flux of inspiration, the changes and what touches us over a period of time. To invite artists into a daily working process is something we believe is a counter act in our fragmented, visually overloaded contemporary lifestyle. diaries is like a daily island of holding silent in a world of constant stimulation. Working parallel on the same topic in different cities and countries is something we want to get other artists interested in. diaries was shown in Vienna and Berlin already. We have shown more than 2000 pictures in one exhibition. Our experience so far is that our exhibitions are very popular with the spectators because everybody can connect to it. The aim is to have one show every year to show the year before. A catalogue about the project has been published in 2015.We focus on presenting our diaries at different venues with different participants and explore different presentations of the huge amount of works created. Since the start of diaries, Michaela Nasoetion (Berlin) and Kenneth Pils (Stockholm) have been included into the project.
